Reefs to Rockies: Passion for Wildlife Conservation
The goal of sustainable tourism is to lessen the impact that travel has on local wildlife, the environment and local cultures. All of Reefs to Rockies’ efforts are attempts to ensure that local community members and wildlife at our destinations benefit from our operations there.
Our primary destinations include areas with high levels of biodiversity and ecological importance. These remarkable places are also the most threatened.
R2R Steps Taken to Ensure Sustainable Travel:

- Book at locally-owned hotels committed to sustainability and conservation, whenever possible. If the property isn’t locally- owned, management must have a local presence and a majority of employees of the hotel must be from local communities.
- Hire local expert guides that adhere to environmental guidelines to minimize impact.
- Educate travelers about sustainable tourism, environmental stewardship, and resource conservation.
- Maintain small group size when visiting environmentally-sensitive areas.
- Support on-the-ground conservation efforts at the destination.
- Carbon offset programs are available for travelers.
- At the office, implementation of measures, including energy conservation, recycling, composting, and use of post-consumer recycled paper products.
At Reefs to Rockies, we believe our greatest task is to help preserve the areas where we send travelers so that the qualities that make them biodiversity hotspots are sustained for generations of visitors to come.
