Sample Itinerary

DAY 1 (Sat, June 17) – Kodiak Evening arrival to Kodiak Island. Overnight at Best Western Kodiak Inn. (D)

DAY 2 (Sun, June 18) – Kodiak (Bear viewing/ flightseeing tour) ~ Our first full day in Alaska begins with a flightseeing/ bear viewing tour that provides an unforgettable opportunity to witness the incredible sights of Kodiak and Afognak Islands, the Alaskan Peninsula, and/or Katmai National Park. We’ll spend three hours on the ground for bear viewing. This itinerary is designed to correspond with brown bear mating season. Overnight at Best Western Kodiak Inn. (B,D)

Day 3 (Mon, June 19) – Kodiak ~ We have the full day to explore Kodiak. Optional excursions include a second day of bear viewing, hiking, birding, fishing, etc. This is also a back up day for bear viewing in case of a weather issue on Day 2. Overnight at Best Western Kodiak Inn. (B,D)

DAY 4 (Tues, June 20) – Kodiak/ Anchorage ~ Morning guided nature walk at Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park. Few state parks in Alaska offer the cultural and natural resources found at Ft. Abercormbie. The historic ruins of a World War II coastal defense installation coupled with steep surf-pounded cliffs, spruce forest, and wildflower-laden meadows offer a unique backdrop for learning Kodiak’s history. Afternoon flight to Anchorage. Overnight at local hotel. (B,D)

Day 5 (Wed, June 21) – Anchorage/ Denali ~ Today brings a full-day scenic road trip from Anchorage to Denali. There will be ample opportunities for sighseeing, side stops, and short nature hikes. Overnight accommodations are nice cabins with full bathrooms and stunning views of the Alaska Range. (B,L,D)

DAY 6 (Thurs, June 22) – Denali Exploration ~ Our entire day is devoted to exploring the Denali area. Main activities include hiking to magnificent vistas of Denali, birding, and wildlife viewing. Our hike(s) will be leisurely allowing ample time to stop and observe wildlife and to take in the area’s grand views. We’ll cap the day off with a visit to local Denali hubs featuring great restaurants and shops. Overnight accommodations are nice cabins with full bathrooms and stunning views of the Alaska Range. DAY 7 (Fri, June 23) – Denali/ Talkeetna/ Girdwood ~ From Denali, we’ll travel to the quaint and quirky town of Talkeetna. For anyone interested, an optional float trip to Talkeetna is available. After dinner in Talkeetna, we’ll continue on to Girdwood with a late evening arrival. Overnight in Girdwood. (B,L,D)

DAY 8 (Sat, June 24) – Girdwood/ Seward/ Orca Island ~ Early morning departure so we have plenty of time for sightseeing en route to Seward. Boat transfer to Orca Island, a private island and our home for the next two nights. The rest of the day is yours to relax and/or partake in various island activities such as kayaking, SUP, fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, tide pooling, beach combing, etc. Overnight at Orca Island Yurts. DAY 9 (Sun, June 25) – Orca Island ~ Full day of island activities. Iconic Alaska wildlife including whales can be spotted right outside your cabin door. An optional Resurrection Bay Cruise is available. Overnight at Orca Island Yurts. (B,L,D)

DAY 10 (Mon, June 26) – Orca Island/ Seward/ Anchorage/ Departure ~ We’ll leave the island around noon and head back to Seward. After lunch, there’s time to visit the Alaska Sealife Center, a highlight attraction in Seward. Following our ASC visit, we’ll head into Kenai Fjords National Park and hike to Exit Glacier. This is your chance to get up close and personal with a glacier. After our glacier hike, we’ll continue to the Alaska Railroad Train Depot for one of the most scenic train rides in the world (Seward-Anchorage). Train arrival is 10:15 pm at the downtown Anchorage train depot. Transfer to the airport in time for your overnight flight home (suggested departure time – 2 am or later). An optional overnight in Anchorage is also available. (B,L)
