Serengeti National Park and The Great Migration ~ Serengeti remains one of the premiere wildlife destinations on the African continent. The park’s ecosystem supports the largest herds of migrating ungulates in the world. Few sights are as breathtaking as that of the rumbling thunder of thousands of hoofed African mammals pounding across the Serengeti plains. Every year, 20,000 zebras and nearly 1 million wildebeest chase the seasonal rains in a 300-mile loop around Tanzania and Kenya. Their migration is one of the most spectacular occurrences in nature – but it is now under serious threat due to plans by the Tanzanian government to bisect their route with a large highway. The best way to help save this magnificent biosphere is to create viable economic incentive through tourism and international interest.
