Yucatan Peninsula’s Sailfish ~ During the winter months, sailfish start arriving to the marine reserve near Isla Contoy. Sailfish have come in search of abundant prey – hundreds of thousands of sardines. Relying on safety in numbers, sardines mass in baitballs. Sailfish, the fastest marine predators on the planet, can reach top speeds of 68 miles per hour while chasing baitballs. This is your chance to swim with sailfish on the hunt.  

In addition to sailfish, it is possible to encounter wild dolphins, manta rays, and resident whale sharks during your guided excursion. This adrenaline-packed adventure is an unforgettable underwater experience!

Sample Itinerary

DAY 1: Arrival to Isla Mujeres ~ Upon arrival at Cancun International Airport, transfer to Gran Puerto Ferry Terminal for your 20 minute ferry ride to Isla Mujeres. The rest of the day is yours to explore Isla. Overnight at Ixchel Beach Hotel or similar.

DAY 2: Sailfish Adventure Early this morning, you’ll embark on your first sailfish adventure. Each excursion is highly dependent on ocean conditions and lasts about six hours on the water. Overnight at Ixchel Beach Hotel. (Lunch)

DAY 3: Enjoy all that Isla has to offer today. Optional activities include snorkeling at the nearby national park and the Underwater Sculpture Museum (MUSA), exploring the island by golf cart or bicycle, embarking on a culinary tour of the island, visiting the turtle nursery, relaxing by the pool or at the beach, etc. We can help you arrange tours ahead of time or you can wait until there to decide. Overnight at Ixchel Beach Hotel.

DAY 4: Sailfish Adventure No two days on the water are alike so today brings another day searching for sailfish chasing baitballs. Overnight at Ixchel Beach Hotel.   (Lunch)    

DAY 5: Departure or Yucatan Extension ~ Transfer back to the airport in time for your flight home.

Single supplement: $300.

Upgraded rooms at Ixchel may be available (additional fee will apply).

Package includes  accommodations, private ground transfers between CUN Airport and Gran Puerto Ferry Terminal, two days of guided sailfish tours, ferry tickets, meals as listed, and snorkel gear and wetsuit during sailfish tours.

Exclusions: international airfare, optional activities, add-on extensions, alcohol, passport/visa fees, gratuities, airport transfers,  taxis, and travel insurance.

Important note: Sailfish sightings are not guaranteed and you must be a strong swimmer to participate. Our experienced guides and boat captains will do their best to make sure each excursion offers the most memorable experience possible. There is an 80% success rate for sailfish sightings when the tour operates. The exact day of each excursion will depend on ocean conditions.
