DAY 1: Arrival in Lima ~ Greeting upon arrival and private transfer to Miraflores hotel.

Day 2: Lima ~ Your first full day in Peru begins with breakfast at the hotel and a relaxing morning after your late evening arrival the night before. This afternoon, you’ll set out for a guided city tour of Lima with stops at the Lima Cathedral, San Francisco Convent and catacombs, and Larco Herrera Museum.

Day 3: Lima/ Cusco/ Sacred Valley ~ Start the day with breakfast and then you’ll be met at the hotel and transferred to the airport for your flight to Cusco and off to the Sacred Valley. Along the way, you will visit Nilda Callañaupa´s Native Weaving School (hosted by Nilda herself). Textile production has profound historic and cultural significance in the Andes, and Nilda Callañaupa´s project is part of a highly successful National Geographic Society-supported initiative to rescue and revive this way of life. Women are the owners and drivers of this activity, fundamental to the family and social structure of these highland communities. You’ll spend time with Nilda while having lunch at her house and learning traditional weaving methods. Continue your afternoon with a guided tour of Ollantaytambo Fortress.

Day 4: Sacred Valley/ Machu Picchu ~ After breakfast, head to the nearby Ollanta train station to board the first-class Vistadome train for a scenic ride through the valley’s dramatic scenery. Upon arrival at Aguas Calientes, you’ll head up to the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu for your private guided tour. It’s easily worth investing your entire day into discovering this ancient city, so lunch is provided.

Day 5: Machu Picchu/ Cusco ~ No two days are alike at Machu Picchu so a second day’s entrance fee and bus tickets are included.  Hiking Huayna Picchu is also an option.  Afternoon Vistadome train to Poroy Station and private transfer to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 6: Cusco ~ Spend the day exploring the city of Cusco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and nearby ruins during your private guided tour.

Day 7: Cusco/ Puerto Maldonado/ Tambopata River ~ Transfer to the Cusco Airport for your flight to Puerto Maldonado, gateway to Peru’s souther Amazon. You’ll be met upon arrival for your road transfer to the boat launch and 3-hr boat transfer to Refugio Amazonas, your home for the next two nights.  Located in a 200-hectare private reserve within the buffer zone of the Tambopata National Reserve, Refugio Amazonas is a 32-bedroom jungle lodge. With its wide variety of A la Carte Activities that include : kid-friendly, soft adventures and science, Refugio Amazonas is great for families. It is also the headquarters of Wired Amazon, our citizen science program. At Refugio Amazonas, guests have the chance to get ‘make science happen’ by working alongside researchers in the rainforest.

Day 8: Tambopata River ~ A la carte activities include kayaking, mountain biking, stand up paddle boarding, sunset cruise, enthobotanical walk, guided nature treks, jungle night walk, jungle farm visit, macaw and parakeet clay lick and many more.

Day 9: Departure ~ Transfer by boat and road back to Pto. Maldonado airport for flight to Lima.  Connect to flight home.

Pricing from $3225 per person based on double occupancy.

Package includes private transfers and tours (shared at Refugio Amazonas), entrance fees as listed, Vistadome train tickets, noted meals, tips for luggage porters at airports, English-speaking guides, domestic flights (Lima-Cusco; Cusco-Pto. Maldonado; Pto. Maldonado-Lima). A donation to local conservation efforts in Peru will be made on behalf of all trip participants.

Exclusions: international airfare, passport/visa fees,  optional activities, personal expenses, travel insurance, taxis and gratuities.
