Last year, Frontier Airlines started measuring passengers carry-on baggage at the gate prior to boarding. Any item that exceeded their size limits had to be checked, and more importantly, paid for at the gate. It seems that the days of having bags checked at the gate for free are gone for most major US airlines.
American, Delta and United have updated their carry-on bag policies to a 14-inch maximum width, 22-inch length, and 9-inch depth. Many carry-on bags measure 15 inches wide. Not all airlines enforce the same same size limits so review your carrier’s website before heading to the airport for your next flight. With a little research, you’ll find that many carry-on bags meet the new size requirements.
