Isla Mujeres, Mexico is one of our top destinations in the summer because of the large congregations of whale sharks that can be found from June through August. Numbers of whale sharks tend to peak between mid-July and mid-August.

If swimming alongside the largest fish in the world isn’t reason enough to visit Isla Mujeres, the eateries offer another incentive. There are a wide range of eateries to suit most budgets. During our annual summer trips, we try to visit old favorites and new locales based on word of mouth referrals. All of the ones listed here are worth a meal (or two).

Edible highlights not shown in photos include Barlito’s decadent cinnamon rolls, quesadillas at Casa los Suenos, and breakfast at M&J Cazuelas.

  1. Agree with the food assessment. That is why I prefer to find dinner on my own rather than an all inclusive resort. I love finding the small, great restaurants. We were there a week, had great reasonably priced food at every meal, and never repeated a restaurant (except breakfast crepes).

  2. Hello ladies! I met you on the whale shark tour on Aug 19…really nice to meet you and thanks for all the great info you shared! Love your website! Tracey :)
